งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากลวิธีการสื่อสารคำนามประสมข้ามภาษาผ่านการแปลจากภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทย โดยข้อมูลที่ใช้ในการศึกษาเป็นคำนามประสมและ

คู่แปลที่ปรากฏในนวนิยายภาษาอังกฤษเรื่อง “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” แต่งโดย J. K. Rowling และในฉบับแปลภาษาไทย เรื่อง “แฮร์รี่ พอตเตอร์กับนักโทษแห่งอัซคาบัน” แปลโดย วลีพร หวังซื่อกุล ผลการวิจัยพบว่า พบคำนามประสมภาษาอังกฤษจำนวน 1,540 คำที่ปรากฏในนวนิยายภาษาอังกฤษ ซึ่งในการแปลคำนามประสมจากภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทยที่ปรากฏในนวนิยายฉบับแปลนั้น พบประเภทของภาษาแปลที่ผู้แปลใช้ในการแปลคำนามประสมภาษาอังกฤษจำนวน 8 ประเภทด้วยกัน ซึ่งประเภทของภาษาแปลที่ผู้แปลใช้มากที่สุด 3 ลำดับแรก ได้แก่ 1) นามวลี ร้อยละ 47.01 2) คำนามประสม ร้อยละ 37.66 และ 3) ประโยค ร้อยละ 6.36 ตามลำดับ ส่วนกลวิธีการแปลคำนามประสมจากภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทยนั้น พบว่าผู้แปลใช้กลวิธีการแปลจำนวน 20 กลวิธี ซึ่งกลวิธีการแปลที่ผู้แปลใช้มากที่สุด 3 ลำดับแรก ได้แก่ 1) การแปลโดยการสร้างคำประสมใหม่ในภาษาไทยโดยแปลคำในภาษาต้นฉบับแบบตรงตัว ร้อยละ 20.58 2) การแปลโดยการแทนที่ด้วยวลีหรือประโยคที่ปรากฏในวัฒนธรรมของภาษาแปล ร้อยละ 18.05 และ 3) การแปลโดยการใช้คำซึ่งเป็นที่รู้จักกันดีในภาษาไทย ร้อยละ 13.38 ตามลำดับ

Abstract

This research study aims at studying cross-language communication strategies of compound nouns through the translation of English to Thai. Data are drawn from a pair (English-Thai) of the novel “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”. English novel was written by J.K. Rowling and Thai novel was translated by Waleeporn Wangsuekul. The results show that there are 1,540 English compound nouns appearing in the novel. There are 8 types of target language used in translating the English compound nouns. Three main types of target language used mostly are: 1) noun phrases by 47.01 percent 2) compound nouns by 37.66 percent and 3) sentences by 6.36 percent, respectively. There are 20 translation strategies used in translating the English compound nouns. Three main translation strategies used mostly are: 1) Translation by building new compound words of the target language by literally translation by 20.58 percent 2) Translation by replacing compound nouns with phrases or sentences of the cultural target language by 18.05 percent and 3) Translation by using substitutes of the cultural target language by 13.38 percent, respectively.
