“ภูเขาอาถรรพ์” และชะห์นอน อหมัด กับการกลายเป็น สมัยใหม่ในมาเลเซีย (“Srengenge”, Shahnon Ahmad and the Becoming of Modernity in Malaysia)

Abstract

นวนิยายเรื่อง “สเรอเงอเงอ” (Srengenge) หรือในชื่อภาษาไทยว่า “ภูเขาอาถรรพ์” ของชะห์นอน อหมัด เป็นวรรณกรรมสำคัญของมาเลเซีย เขียนขึ้นในยุคที่มาเลเซียอยู่ในช่วงหัวเลี้ยวหัวต่อของการพัฒนาประเทศไปสู่สังคมสมัยใหม่ช่วงทศวรรษ 1970 ในยุคนี้เกิดข้อถกเถียงเกี่ยวกับการพัฒนาเข้าสู่สังคมสมัยใหม่ของมาเลเซียจากหลายฝ่าย ทั้งรัฐบาล องค์กรเอกชน ภาคประชาชน ตลอดจนท้องถิ่นมีวาทกรรมการพัฒนาที่หลากหลาย ปะทะผสานกัน ทั้งสังคมนิยม ทุนนิยมสมัยใหม่ และวาทกรรมศาสนาอิสลาม ในบริบทนี้ นวนิยายเรื่อง Srengenge จึงเกิดขึ้นเพื่อสะท้อนจุดยืนของนักวรรณกรรมต่อการก้าวย่างเข้าสู่สังคมสมัยใหม่ดังกล่าว นวนิยายเรื่องนี้นอกจากจะมีความสำคัญกับประวัติวรรณกรรมแล้ว ยังมีความหมายต่อการพัฒนาเป็นสมัยใหม่ของมาเลเซียอีกด้วย

The novel “Srengenge” by Shahnon Ahmad is an essential Malaysian
literature written in the transition period to a modern society of Malaysia. During 1970s, there were many arguments over development of modern society from several sectors ; the government, private organizations, and people of the country including those in local areas. Various types of development discourse such as socialism, capitalism, modernity, and discourse about Islam were collided and merged. In this context, the novel “Srengenge, consequently, was emerged in order to reflect the standpoint of its author towards the change of the modern society. This novel is not only important to the Malay literary history, but also meaningful to the development of Malaysia.
