สุภาษิตพระร่วง: การศึกษาแง่ประวัติวรรณคดี (The historical study of Suphasit Phraruang)

Abstract

สุภาษิต พระร่วง เป็นวรรณคดีเรื่องสำคัญเรื่องหนึ่งซึ่งเป็นที่รู้จักและสนใจศึกษากันมานานใน ฐานะวรรณคดีสุโขทัย แต่ปัจจุบันนักวิชาการบางคนมีความเห็นว่าควรจัดวรรณคดีเรื่องนี้เป็นวรรณคดี สมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ เพราะตัวบทที่รู้จักกันอย่างแพร่หลายเป็นผลงานในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ บทความนี้ประสงค์จะชี้ให้เห็นว่า ในการศึกษาวรรณคดีเรื่องนี้เชิงประวัติ ควรพิจารณาประเด็นที่มาและยุคสมัยที่แต่งโดยแยกจากตัวบทเพื่อมิให้เกิดความ สับสน เพราะจากการศึกษาทรรศนะของนักวรรณคดีสำคัญต่างๆ ของไทย ตลอดจนหลักฐานด้านเนื้อหา ทำให้ได้ข้อสรุปว่าวรรณคดีเรื่องนี้น่าจะมีประวัติความเป็นมาตั้งแต่สมัย สุโขทัย แต่ตัวบทได้รับการพัฒนาเรื่อยมาจนถึงสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์เมื่อมีการนำไปจารึก หากพิจารณาด้วยแนวทางดังกล่าว วรรณคดีเรื่องนี้ยังคงนับได้ว่าเป็นวรรณคดีสุโขทัยโดยไม่ต้องเปลี่ยนแปลง ข้อมูลทางประวัติวรรณคดีไทยเกี่ยวกับยุคสมัยที่แต่ง ส่วนตัวบทซึ่งเอื้อต่อการตีความและอาจนำไปใช้เป็นประโยชน์ได้ทุกยุคทุกสมัย เป็นปัจจัยสำคัญที่ทำให้วรรณคดีเรื่องนี้ดำรงคุณค่าเป็นที่ประจักษ์ตลอดมา อย่างไม่เปลี่ยนแปลง

Suphasit Phraruang has been widely studied and is well-known as an important form of Sukhothai didactic literature. However, some literature experts argue that this literary work belongs to the Rattana Kosin era, as the well-known text is improved in the early Rattana Kosin era. This article aims to propose that there are two significant aspects that should be considered separately in
discussing the work: the text and its background. It is the thesis here that Suphasit Phraruang should be categorized as part of the Sukhothai literature—to emphasize only the recent textual aspects causes confusion and disputation. The study of its background reveals that Suphasit Phraruang stems from the Sukhothai era and that the text has devolved to its current state during the Rattana Khosin era.
