บทความฉบับนี้ให้ความสำคัญกับการสืบหาที่มาของพฤติกรรมการดื่มแอลกอฮอล์ซึ่งปรากฏในวรรณกรรมทั้งจากฟากฝั่งตะวันตกและในฟากฝั่งตะวันออก ตลอดจน
คุณประโยชน์ของแอลกอฮอล์โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งสุราในฐานะเครื่องกล่อมประสาททำให้มนุษย์สามารถละลืมความทุกข์โศกไปชั่วขณะ ช่วยปลุกเร้าอารมณ์ให้มีความครึกครื้นสราญใจ และบันดลให้มนุษย์มีความกล้าหาญยิ่งขึ้น นอกจากนั้น การที่นักบวชและ
กวีผู้มีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังทั่วโลกจำนวนหนึ่งได้ใช้สุราเสมอยานพาหะในการรังสรรค์ผลงานทางด้านศิลปะ กับทั้งอาศัยสุราเพื่อเข้าฌานสมาธิและเชื่อมโยงกับเบื้องบนจนสำเร็จผล ก็เป็นประเด็นน่าสนใจอีกประเด็นหนึ่ง เพราะช่วยอธิบายที่มาของธรรมเนียมการใช้สุราในการประกอบพิธีกรรมต่าง ๆ ของประชาชนทั่วโลกที่สืบสานกันมาแต่อนันตกาล

The investigation of spirits drinking behavior of people from both occidental and oriental literary works is the important essence of the article. The advantage of spirits can be seen as a tranquillizer in temporarily
forgetting sorrow, arousing mirthful emotion, and instilling courage. In addition, some famous ascetics consume spirits in order to achieve a transcendental
meditation, as well as some famous writers are inspired by drinking spirits during creating their artistic work. These phenomena are able to explain the origin of spirits used in rituals of people all over the world since the
primordial time.
