อรรถศาสตร์สังเคราะห์ : พัฒนาการของตำรา ว่าด้วยความหมายในภาษาไทย Synthetizing Semantics : The Development of Thai Semantics Textbooks

Abstract

ปัจจุบันการศึกษาความหมายในภาษาไทยได้รับความสนใจจากนักภาษาศาสตร์อย่างกว้างขวาง บทความฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์พัฒนาการของตำราที่ว่าด้วยความหมายในภาษาไทย โดยเก็บข้อมูลจากเอกสารประเภทตำราที่มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวข้อง กับการศึกษาความหมายในภาษาไทยตั้งแต่สมัยอยุธยาจนถึงปัจจุบัน ผลการศึกษาพบว่า พัฒนาการของตำราความหมายในภาษาไทย จำแนกออกเป็น 2 ช่วง ได้แก่ 1) ช่วงก่อนได้รับอิทธิพลภาษาศาสตร์ และ 2) ช่วงหลังได้รับอิทธิพลภาษาศาสตร์ ในระยะแรก เนื้อหาตำราความหมายในภาษาไทยยังไม่ค่อยชัดเจน และส่วนใหญ่มักแทรกอยู่ในแบบเรียนในหนังสืออย่าง “จินดามณี” “อักษรนิติ” “ไวพจน์พิจารณ์” “ปกีระณำพจนาดถ์” “ไวพจน์ประพันธ์” และ “อุไภยพจน์” เนื้อหาส่วนใหญ่กล่าวถึงความสัมพันธ์ทางความหมาย และการเปลี่ยนแปลงความหมาย ในระยะเวลาต่อมา เนื้อหาได้ขยายขอบเขตการศึกษาตามแนวทางของตะวันตกซึ่งประกอบด้วยแนวคิดสำคัญ ๆ ได้แก่ การศึกษาความหมายตามแนวทางภาษาศาสตร์เชิงประวัติ ภาษาศาสตร์โครงสร้าง และภาษาศาสตร์ปริชาน ตำราในระยะนี้เริ่มใช้ชื่อว่า “อรรถศาสตร์” และมีแนวโน้มที่จะศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างภาษากับระบบความคิดมากขึ้น Currently the study of meanings in Thai has gained wide interest from linguists. This paper aims to analyze the development of textbooks on meanings in Thai. Data were collected from textbooks from the Ayudhaya period to the present whose contents involve the study of meanings in Thai. The results show that the development of textbooks on meanings in Thai can be divided into 2 periods: 1) before linguistic influences and 2) after linguistic influences. At the former period, the contents of textbooks on meanings in Thai were not very clear, and most were incorporated into textbooks such as “Jindamanee”, “Aksornnitt”, “Vipojphijarn”, “Pakeeranumpojanath” and “Upaiyapoj”. Mostly the contents in these books covered sense relations and meaning changes. At the latter period, the scope of meaning study in Thai were expanded in accordance with the western trends often comprising crucial concepts including the investigation into meaning from the approaches of historical, structural, and cognitive linguistics. Most Thai textbooks in this period started to use the title “Semantics” and had a tendency to focus more on the study of the relationship between meaning and system of thought.
